OUR STORY

OUR STORY

In September 2019, Chidinma Ubah, the Founder of thebrydge, faced a devastating accusation. Just two days before her graduation, a lecturer accused her of plagiarising her final project, a claim rooted not in evidence but in prejudice—Chidinma was the only Black student in her class. Growing up, Chidinma endured relentless bullying and ridicule for both her intellect and her appearance. She was made to believe she was dumb, and her voice was stifled. It wasn’t until university that she discovered the truth: she wasn’t dumb; she had dyslexia, a learning difference. This revelation was the beginning of her journey to self-discovery and reclaiming her voice.

The accusation of plagiarism felt like a cruel affirmation of the negativity she had internalised for so long. She was shattered, but her faith in God helped her find strength and liberation. Determined to prove her worth, Dinma embarked on her master’s degree. Despite widespread scepticism, she believed in herself and knew that with God’s help, she would succeed brilliantly. Dinma’s journey was fraught with struggles and pain, but it ignited a powerful resolve within her. She realised she was meant for greatness, far beyond what her detractors could imagine. This realisation sparked the creation of thebrydge, a platform dedicated to empowering individuals to express their unique identities.

Thebrydge is a platform that focuses on bridging the inequality gaps between generations and socioeconomic backgrounds by sharing the love of Christ. Focuses on empowering, equipping and encouraging individuals to discover their unique identity and freedom in Christ through the transformative power of storytelling. Through thebrydge, Chidinma aims to be a voice for this generation and the next, encouraging people to share their stories and embrace their scars as badges of courage, not marks of shame. She seeks to show everyone that their voices are powerful, and their individuality is worth celebrating.

Welcome to the world of our founder

Chidinma Ubah, also known as ‘Dinma’, is a creative writer, filmmaker, and author who drives the organisation’s mission with her powerful voice and visionary mind. Her journey of self-discovery, marked by determination, resilience, and the courage to confront adversity, has shaped her into a compelling advocate for the unseen, unheard, and broken. The traumas she has faced inspired her to become a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves. By sharing her own story, she demonstrates the power of our voices and how our experiences can serve as beacons of hope and guidance for those facing challenges. Her bold leadership and impactful work over the years have earned her the trust of influential figures and the broader community, who are eager to partner with her in realising this vision and sharing their own stories.

Born on February 22nd, to loving Nigerian parents, Dinma grew up surrounded by support and affection from her family and siblings. Her mother’s guidance, prayers, and unwavering belief in her abilities have been a guiding light, shaping Dinma into a strong, determined woman who pursues her dreams with confidence. With a Bachelor’s degree in Film and Television and a Masters in Feature Film Development, she has carved a niche for herself with her passion for furthering the gospel of Christ through spreading a message of hope, believing that everyone has a gift within them that needs to shine, and that we are all destined for greatness.

Through her organisation’s platform thebrydge, she is creating a safe space for all to boldly tell their stories, whilst also being a strong advocate for unique learners. Dinma can best be described as a woman in pursuit of happiness, one who is loving, tenacious, with a gift for being sensitive to the plight of others and always seeking to put a smile on others through selfless sacrifice, an attribute admired by all who knows her. She is an emerging voice, one that will concretely establish itself in the creative and advocacy space for many years to come.

This drive for excellence is further echoed in her recently
published book titled The Dangers of Being Different. This book is not just a collection of words; it is her heart and soul laid bare. It is a memoir that delves into her personal
journey, exploring the harrowing experiences of bullying, the relentless pain, the path of self-discovery, and the daunting challenge of living with dyslexia in Nigeria. The
Dangers of Being Different is a journey through the trials and triumphs of life, a story of finding strength in adversity and beauty in uniqueness. It is a call to embrace who we are, despite the challenges, and to recognise that our differences are what makes us extraordinary.
